Flora and Fauna of Gulf Province

Gulf Province is one of the five provinces of the Southern Region of Papua New Guinea. Gulf is home to some of the vast areas of untouched tropical forests. The coastal area is littered with swamp lands which provides a suitable environment for crocodiles.

The tropical rainforests of Gulf starting from Kikori basin to the eastern coast is one of the largest in Papua New Guinea. There are many timber operations in the Gulf. This large tropical rainforests play an important role in carbon sequestration. Photos below show some of the vegetation along the Kerema Highway.
